Nancy Johnson Barker was my guest on Mountain Dulcimer Folk LIVE, Monday, April 6, 2009. I talked with Nancy about her music, Kentucky Music Week, her Dulcimer Players News articles, and more. We listened to some of her latest music as well as some surprising tracks from the archive.
Nancy started playing the mountain dulcimer in 1962 by listening to Jean Ritchie records and trying to copy what she was hearing. Since then, she started the Louisville Dulcimer Society, Kentucky Music Weekend, Kentucky Music Week, and Kentucky Music Winter Weekend. She's put out a number of albums from 1973 to 2005 including Mellow Lady, Bridges, and one of my favorites, Angels of Mercy. Much of what we enjoy in the dulcimer world today we have Nancy to thank.
